Custom fastener options

Purchasing screws is usually an easy process. You measure and establish the size needed. You head to your local home improvement store and you search for the exact screw dimension. With careful measurement, you know that your screw will fit into the expected slot. What do you do though, when the screw size you need does not match one that is readily sold in stores? The concept of the screw dates back to around 200 B.C., but it is possible that you still might need custom screws.

Contact the manufacturer
In most cases, you will find that you can find any size screw needed at your local store. If you purchased a special project, you might even find that the manufacturer already included the custom fastener options in the box. If you lose track of one of the screws or one of the fastener options were not included, you should first contact the manufacturer. They might be able to send you extra custom screws. Additionally, they might be able to refer you to a local store that carries the custom miniature screws.

Try a stock screw
There is also something called a stock screw that could solve your problem. Stock screws are a generic size and can generally fit into different areas. They can be adjusted, making them useful in both large and small projects. With a micro fastener, you can adjust the fastener options to fit whatever size you need. Speak with a representative at your local home improvement store to see which stock screws you should try first. You might have to try a few before finding one that fits. However, if you still are unable to achieve a secure fit, you might need to order a custom screw.

Order a custom screw
Custom screws are made for projects that require unique fastener options. Fortunately, the process is relatively easy. You can work with your local home improvement store if they offer custom screw options. Otherwise, you can work with a local custom screw manufacturer. You simply submit the sizing you need and with customized machinery, the company can create any size screw that you need. Just make sure your measurements are correct because you want the custom screw to fit perfectly.

Order extra custom screws
If you do have to have custom screws made, make sure you order extra screws. It is possible that you will require additional screws later on and you don?t want to go through the process of a custom screw design again. Additionally, it can be more affordable to order plenty of screws at once. Always save the original dimensions so if you do have to have more made, you can match the size as best as possible. It can also help to go with the same custom screw manufacturer.

You also have many options available when it comes to the design of your custom screws. For example, SEMS screws combine two separate parts into one pre assembled, low cost fastener. With washers under the head, SEMS screws are fast, permanent, and easily adaptable to many applications. The SEMS screws are a good option because if the measurement is off by a couple of millimeters, you are still able to get a secure fit.

Although more than 200 billion fasteners are used each year in the U.S., there are still some projects that require a special, custom screw size. Fortunately, manufacturers generally include special screws with their projects. If you have a custom project, you can instead, order your own custom screw sizes. Custom screws allow you to have a finished project that is secure and durable.
