To many warehouse personnel and managers, forklift battery washing might not seem like a high priority. Why worry about washing your forklift batteries when you could skip this process and get your forklift battery changing done even faster? In fact, there are tons of reasons why you should never skip this procedure that you may never have known about. When each forklift battery is a significant investment for your warehouse, you can’t afford to neglect this procedure.

Could you be significantly compromising your warehouse efficiency by not teaching personnel how to wash a forklift battery? There are so many reasons why it is important to wash a forklift battery — here are just three of them:

Extended forklift battery life

Ideally, your warehouse’s forklift batteries should have a lifespan of around 6,000 hours. However, failing to regularly wash your forklift batteries as recommended can significantly decrease the battery’s lifespan. The chemical reactions that take place within the forklift battery gradually create buildup around the battery’s terminals over time, and this buildup can compromise the battery’s ability to hold a charge. To preserve battery life, this buildup will need to be washed off.

Safer warehouse personnel

Forklift battery washing also helps keep your personnel safe from unnecessary hazards. The outer buildup of chemical waste on each forklift battery can cause personnel to get chemical burns, even if they’re wearing the right protective gear — to keep all personnel safe in the battery room, be sure to wash this buildup off of all forklift batteries.

Preventing battery corrosion over time

The corrosive chemicals within each forklift battery take their toll over time, and corrosion can cause the connection between a battery’s terminals and its cables to be worn down. The best way to avoid this corrosion, however, is through regular washing of each forklift battery. Your batteries will run as well as they did when you first got them.
